Named to embrace Edgewood's early roots, the community now known as Edgewood was originally called Venus.
Local lore has it that when the community petitioned for its own post office, the Postmaster General felt the name Venus was too provocative and refused to establish a post office under that name. He asked the community to come up with another name.
Eventually, the community settled on Edgewood for its perfect description of the town's location -- at the edge of the woods.
