Named in recognition of Edgewood's earlier roots. The community now known as Edgewood was originally called Venus. Local lore has it that when the community petitioned for its own post office, the Postmaster General did not like the name Venus and refused to establish a post office under that name. He asked the community to come up with another name. Eventually, the name Edgewood was chosen for its description of the town's location -- at the edge of the woods.
