Fraudulent Phone Calls in the Community


Recently, many members of the community have been targeted by individuals posing as Law Enforcement over the phone.  The callers are claiming to be members of the IRS or local Law Enforcement.  The callers are very aggressive and insistent that payment be made over the phone to settle an alleged outstanding warrant that was issued for them.

As reported, the caller will make every attempt to get the victim to send money to settle the issue.  The callers escalate their tactics when the victim does not cooperate and threaten that Law Enforcement will be sent to their residence to arrest them. 

Please be advised that at no time will Law Enforcement take money or make demands of payments over the phone.  The Edgewood Police Department encourages the public to be vigilant and report this fraud to
